Lolita

A book project edited by John Bertram that uses images and essays to represent Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. The project features over 50 new conceptual book covers and essays by book designers and writers. I was honored to be asked to participate and design a cover for the story. Nabokov makes us feel his poetic words and language throughout the story. The text “Lo-Lee-Ta” is one of the first sentences in the book in which Humbert is narrating about his love, Lolita. “Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.” Shredding and torn, conveying the loss of Lolita’s childhood innocence and corruption.
